Catan, formerly known as The Settlers of Catan, is a thrilling board game where players aim to become the dominant power on the island of Catan. Build settlements, cities, and roads to expand your civilization. Each turn, roll the dice to see what resources the island yields - wood, grain, brick, sheep, or stone. Collect these resource cards to reach 10 victory points and win the game. The setup is exciting! Randomly arrange large hexagonal tiles in a honeycomb pattern, with water tiles around them. Some water tiles have exchange ports. Place number disks on resource tiles, corresponding to die rolls. Each player starts with two settlements and roads, placed on intersections and borders of resource tiles. You'll collect resource cards based on the hex tiles next to your last - placed house. A robber pawn sits on the desert tile. A turn involves playing development cards, rolling the dice, collecting resources (except when a 7 is rolled), trading at ports, and with other players. If a 7 is rolled, move the robber and steal resources. Points come from building, having the longest road, the largest army, and gathering certain development cards. Catan has won many awards and appeals to both experienced gamers and newbies, making it one of the most popular board games ever.

To start playing Catan, first, randomly place the large hexagonal tiles in a honeycomb shape and surround them with water tiles. Put number disks on each resource tile. Give each player two settlements and roads, and let them place them on intersections and borders of the resource tiles. Place the robber pawn on the desert tile. On your turn, you can play a development card, then roll the dice. If the roll isn't a 7, everyone collects resource cards based on where their settlements or cities are. If you roll a 7, move the robber to a new hex tile and steal resource cards from players with structures next to it. You can trade cards at ports or with other players and turn in resource cards for improvements. To win, build settlements and cities, aim for the longest road and the largest army, and gather development cards that give victory points. Reach 10 points and you win! Keep the game components clean and dry. When not in use, store the tiles, cards, and pawns in the box to prevent loss. If the cards get dirty, you can gently wipe them with a dry cloth. Have fun playing Catan!
